Richard Mongan obtained his BSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from Bristol University, UK in 1985 and has 25 years experience in the seismic industry. Richard's career has included acting as an Observer on Land Seismic crews and working as a Seismic Logging Engineer. These assignments brought him to over 14 countries on 5 continents, mostly war zones, including North West Frontier Province Pakistan (the Russians were next door in Afghanistan at the time), Tripoli Libya (just after it was bombed), Congo, Nigeria and New Orleans (in time for Hurricane Katrina). Richard joined Chevron's Deepwater Exploration/Projects Team in Houston as a VSP Acquisition Specialist in 2008. He follows with interest the niche and emerging markets of seismic while drilling (the biggest misnomer in the industry today - don't you need a quiet environment to record data?), permanent sensors and acquiring microseismic data passively or while hydraulically fracturing. Richard has served as the 2003-2004 SGS Secretary, 2004-2005 SGS Treasurer, 2005-2006 SGS President, 2006-2007 SGS Past President, 2007-2008 SGS Prior Past President and SGS Webmaster since 2007. He has sat on SEG Council since 2005 and attended the inaugural SEG General Assembly in January 2008. He is a current active member of SEG and his outside interests include Formula1, NASCAR, Karaoke, Barbecuing, Live Music, Football (Soccer, Rugby and American), Fighting and Golf.
