Richard Mongan obtained his BSc in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from Bristol University, UK in 1985 and has over 22 years experience in the seismic industry. Richard's career has included acting as an Observer on Land Seismic crews and working as a Seismic Logging Engineer before coming out of the field into more technical and managerial positions e.g. Instrument Supervisor and Regional Management. These assignments brought him to over 14 countries on 5 continents. Richard has recently joined Chevron's Deepwater Exploration/Projects Group in Houston as a VSP Acquisition Specialist. He follows with interest the niche and emerging markets of seismic while (not) drilling, permanent sensors and acquiring microseismic data passively for compaction monitoring or actively for fracture extent calculations while formations are being hydraulically stimulated. Richard has served as the 2003-2004 SGS Secretary, 2004-2005 SGS Treasurer, 2005-2006 SGS President, 2006-2007 SGS Past President and 2007-2008 SGS Prior Past President. He has sat on SEG Council since 2005 and attended the inaugural SEG General Assembly in January 2008. He is a current active member of SEG and the local SPWLA and his outside interests include Formula1, NASCAR, Karaoke, Barbecuing, Live Music, Football (Soccer, Rugby and American), Fighting and Golf.
